‘Visitor to Blue Lake’ by AC Cooper

Visitor to Blue Lake

Leaving her home planet with the aim of making a new life for herself, Jazz Mackinnon soon makes friends in the small-town community of Blue Lake. Investigating the disappearance of a young girl, Detective Slade McGuinness ropes the newcomer into working with a local photographer and soon discovers she has some unusual talents when it comes to tracking down bad guys.

This is the first short story in indie author AC Cooper’s ‘Jazz and Slade’ series and sets up the relationship which continues in the next one, Murder in Blue Lake. The writing style is easy-going, and the interaction between the main characters gives the impression the author knowns her creations very well. Having said that, the quality of writing isn’t quite as good as in book two, but this may be due to the slightly drawn-out set-up which is essential in understanding the characters.

Clever and interesting story that develops well in the follow up.
