‘A Limited Justice’ by Catriona King

A Limited Justice

A charred body is found in a petrol station thrusting DCI Marc Craig’s murder squad into a challenging mystery. With possible links to a second death, the police are faced with some tough questions to answer.

This is the first in Catriona King’s substantial Craig Crime series and introduces an interesting bunch of characters. I loved the sense of place and the banter between the various members of the police team, along with the unusual and inventive description of the initial murder. Although King’s writing style occasionally felt a bit clunky, that’s probably me just being picky and for most readers won’t affect their enjoyment.

A clever and well-written tale with a likeable hero who isn’t the usual hard-boiled detective with an axe to grind.

A charred body is rather awful. A good review, Colin.
