‘Couples who Kill: Elytte and Miranda Barbour’ by Kathryn McMaster

Couples who Kill: Elytte and Miranda Barbour

Personal ads on Craigslist cover a whole range of subjects, but for Troy LaFerrara who enjoys casual sex, the young couple who answer his advert are seeking more than a bit of adult fun. After agreeing to meet Elytte and Miranda Barbour, LaFerrara is found in a dark alley, strangled and stabbed several times. Local police are rightly confused about this bizarre murder and even after the killers are caught, it seems impossible to work out which of them is telling the truth.

This is the first book in Kathryn McMaster’s ‘Couples Who Kill’ series. Like her ‘Kids Who Kill’ books, the author handles the facts of the case in a sensitive and thoughtful manner. She is meticulous in her research, delving into the troubled lives of the killers and the circumstances surrounding their inexplicable desire to murder an innocent man. The story is gruesome at times and upsetting in its outcome, leaving the readers wondering how anyone could commit such a terrible crime.

A disquieting book that will appeal to fans of truecrime and bizarre murders.

Thanks for this recommendation, Colin. I find the idea of kids and couples who kill completely fascinating.

It’s pretty horrible, but as you say, utterly fascinating.
